Description

Ken Wall

After over 40 years and much deliberation, I have decided to leave the sport. As anyone involved in racing pigeons knows, it is a very demanding sport and takes your full-time attention leaving very little time for anything else and making it nearly impossible to travel.

Back in 1976, I happened upon an injured banded bird on the way to work. This renewed a long-time dormant love of the sport. And so the story began… Over the years I have been a member of several clubs; The Western Racing Pigeon Club and The Eastern Racing Pigeon Club, just to name a couple. In 2003 the Rouge Valley Flyers was established and run by John and Denis Adams and myself. Using our own trailer and flying the north east course, in my opinion the only way to fly into Toronto, the club flourished for 11 years.

My success during these years was mainly with young birds. One of my highlights was winning the young bird average speed award in 1983 in The Western Club which had about twenty five members at the time.

In 2006 I decided to try one-loft flying and found this a good fit for my birds. Having success right away by placing 17th in a 500 km race in a field of approximately 800 – 1000 birds. In 2007 I placed 8th in a 553 km race, 2010 13th in the 500 km in a field of 1000 birds and 2014 1st in the 500 km Empire Classic in a field of approx. 700 birds, and in 2016 1st in the Empire 300. Earlier this year I took 16th, 24th and 101st in a field of approx. 400 birds, in the Niagara one-loft race. These results were accomplished with the minimum entry per race. I would estimate these races won me approximately $21,000.

My birds have proven to be excellent one-loft flyers and I encourage you to look over the pedigrees and bid on the ones you like. I hope you have as much success with these birds as I have had. Yours in the Sport! Ken Wall
